Sitka Summer Music Festival

festivalThe Sitka Summer Music Festival was founded in 1972 by violinist Paul Rosenthal, on the Sheldon Jackson Campus. Its flagship series is the Sitka Summer Music Festival, bringing classical music and artists to Sitka for three weeks of performances during June.

After almost 40 years, Paul Rosenthal handed the baton of musical director to internationally acclaimed cellist, Zuill Bailey.

In 2011, The Sitka Summer Music Festival bought Stevenson Hall on the Sheldon Jackson Campus to use for rehearsal space and musician housing.

Summer 2012, the Sitka Summer Music Festival and the Sitka Fine Arts Camp will team up for the first time, to offer students a specialized strings program, featuring classes and master-classes taught by Music Festival musicians.
